In Classic Era WoW, thereâs 9 Primary professions and 3 Secondary professions for players to choose from and level up. Thereâs a limit to only 2 Primary professions at a time, though secondary professions are always accessible for any player to level up. Pretty much all professions can be useful in their own right, so players are free to choose what they find most interesting and fitting for their character. That being said, it can also be useful to synergise with your friends for maximum efficiency. The professions in question are:
Primary:
Secondary:
Out of all the primary professions, the player can choose to have only two. Most primary professions can be divided into crafting and gathering ones, so itâs usually advised to pick correlated professions, unless you plan to just sell materials to other players or have other means of getting materials as a crafter. As for the secondary professions, there are no restrictions, as players are free to level them all up simultaneously if they so choose.
The short answer is blatantly obvious â you have to do activities associated with the profession of your choosing. Now, what these activities will be differs from profession to profession. But generally, youâd either have to travel across the world and gather materials, such as ore, herbs and skin of creatures or craft items from these gathered materials. Generally speaking, gathering professions are pretty dull and monotonous, but fairly easy to level up. Meanwhile crafting professions can be much more challenging to do, since you need the materials and recipes.
This is actually very easy! Just go into your Spellbook & Abilities interface and youâll find the Profession tab right there. Youâll be able to see the current primary and secondary professions of your character, as well as the progress you made leveling them.
Enchantment is likely the most difficult profession to level up. Itâs extremely dependent on blacksmithing for leveling and the trainers are located in some rather unorthodox places. It can also be rather expensive to level up, all the while your own profits from the profession may not not come until youâll be able to create the best enchantments. That being said, itâs still an extremely valuable profession once you get through all the hurdles. And if you need some help along this way, weâll gladly provide you with it!
You can start learning a primary profession as soon as you hit level 5, so it shouldnât be a big problem. However, it would take you quite a while before youâd be able to craft some truly useful and valuable items, whether you plan to use them yourself or sell to other players.
Of course! Unlearning your current profession is as easy as going into the skill tab of your character and clicking âUnlearnâ, while taking on a new one would simply require you to talk with an appropriate profession trainer in the game. Do keep in mind, however, that not only will you start a new profession from zero, but all your progress on an abandoned profession will also completely reset.
Professions are supposed to function as an alternative way for the players to skill-up their characters whenever they feel tired of endless monster killing. Of course, it was also supposed to deepen the roleplay within a game, as players would search the world for resources and interact with other players to buy or sell their goods. Still, even if youâre only interested in endgame activities like dungeons, raids and PvP, professions shouldnât be overlooked. Leveling some of them high enough can reward you with some extremely useful items and consumables, while others might be considered downright essential! And even if you donât plan to use something yourself, you can always sell it to other players for a good sum of gold.
