Classic Era Blackwing Lair Attunement

The Blackwing Lair attunement process is actually really simple:

1. Find and kill the Scarshield Quartermaster in the hidden corridor right outside the Blackrock Spire entrance
2. Loot the Blackhand's Command from his corpse, click on it to accept the quest of the same name
3. Go through the Blackrock Spire all the way to the General Drakkisath and kill him
4. Click the Orb of Ascension right behind the dead General Drakkisath.
5. The Attunement quest is finished!

Next time you approach the Orb of Command in the same corridors you’ve killed the Scarshield Quartermaster, it’ll teleport you right to the entrance of the Blackwing Lair.

As simple as this attunement quest can be, you can still encounter some frustrations, such as trying to find the Scarshield Quartermaster in the first place or having to deal with other players who also try to loot him. You’ll also need a good team to get through the Blackrock Spire and defeat General Drakkisath. If you’d rather avoid such nuisances, our WoW Blackwing Lair boost is at your service!

Sadly, the game doesn't give any way of tracking the completed attunements. Thus, your only option is to do it “manually”. You have two options how to go about it:

Find Scarshield Quartermaster at the Blackrock Mountain and kill them. If you can pick up the “Blackhand's Command” note from their body, the attunement is yet to be done. And if you can’t you’re likely already attuned.

Approach the Orb of Command and try using it. Whether it will teleport you to the Blackwing Lair or not is the easiest and most straightforward way to see whether you’re attuned or not.

Just like in the case of the Molten Core raid, you don’t actually need an attunement to enter the Blackwing Lair. All you do is open up a shortcut for ease of access in the future. However, there is a bit more to that than what might initially appear.

Thing is, while the game doesn't require you to finish the attunement, other players do. The raiding teams are not interested in slogging through the Blackrock Spire along with you, nor waiting for you to do it on your own. So it's still in the best interest of every raider to finish an attunement to have a better raiding experience in the future.

There was some misinformation that you absolutely need to finish the attunement quest to enter the raid, which would sometimes cause great troubles in getting the quest simply from the amount of people trying to do it. We repeat, you do not have to finish the attunement quest to enter the raid. Iif for some reason you can’t, it's likely caused by some kind of bug.

Just like the case with the Molten Core, the attunement for the Blackwing Lair has been removed in Patch 5.4.0 during the Mists of Pandaria expansion. Thus, neither of these two classic raids needs attunement in the retail version of WoW. But you still can do so in WoW Classic and it’s in your own best interest to be attuned.
